Paint and ink residues

Similar term(s): examples

Definition:

Leftovers and mixtures of paints or inks used in industrial processes, for instance in paint spray machines. These residues contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

Paint and ink residues are one of the five waste streams considered in this assessment next to solvents & waste oils, wastewater sludge, filter cake from wastewater treatment, and fluff.

In this assessment, this waste stream is often referred to as impregnated sawdust, because paints and inks are mixed with sawdust when used as fuel in cement kilns. In this study, on average, one tonne of impregnated sawdust contains 578 kg of waste and 422 kg of sawdust.
